Conghui is leading a 12-member-strong business delegation from Xiamen, on a roadshow for the sixth China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT), to be held between 8 and 11 September 2002 at Xiamen, China. This is the only investment fair in Asia. The members are part of the China Council for Promotion of International Trade Xiamen Sub-Council/China Chamber of International Commerce Xiamen Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1987.
The chamber aims to conduct non-governmental economic and trade exchanges with countries and regions around the world. It is also into introducing advanced foreign technologies and developing economic and technological linkages with Xiamen or Southern Fujian Triangle Areas of China.
Conghui said the local revenue in the province grew by 20.7 per cent, while exports touched $6.5 billion in this period - a growth of 10.63 per cent. The sixth CIFIT will break new grounds by launching the Overseas Pavilion, with three sub-pavilions, for ‘international friendship cities,’ overseas investment promotion agencies and overseas enterprises.
Speaking on the occasion, ICC former president J P Chowdhary said traditional strategies adopted for business between India and China need a rethink. “It will be worthwhile to focus on joint ventures in the realm of tourism, infrastructure, agro- and food-processing and information technology.”
In the eastern region, he said, some of the potential areas of investment include petrochemical industries (particularly in downstream projects), information technology, agro- and food-processing and the growing entertainment industry.
