Mumbai: Leading domestic carrier Jet Airways Ltd announced Monday that it would operate a direct flight to London from Ahmedabad from April 3.

According to the carrier, it will initially operate two non-stop flights per week to London from Ahmedabad and increase it to three a week from May. Jet also said that it would operate an Airbus A330-200 aircraft on the route.

Jet already flies to London from Mumbai, New Delhi and Amritsar.

The introduction of the new route not only marks an expansion of Jet's international operations, but is also its response to increasing competition from low cost carriers at home.

Jet already flies to south Asia, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand and is ready to add North America, Europe, Africa and more Asian cities to its itinerary.
