GAIL board approves over Rs7500-crore Dabhol-Bengaluru and Kochi-Mangalore pipelines

The board of directors of the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) has approved investment worth Rs7,500 crore for laying the Dabhol-Bengaluru and Kochi–Kanjirkkod–Bengaluru– Mangalore pipelines.

The two pipelines would each have a capacity to carry 16 million cubic metres of gas. GAIL had in principle approved the projects in January this year. (See: GAIL to execute Dabhol-Bangalore pipeline project; Completion scheduled for 2011)

The 1,114-km long Kochi–Mangalore pipeline, to be completed in two phases, will see an investment of Rs3,032 crore.

The first phase of the project, to be completed by 2011, will carry a 96km pipeline from Kochi to Aluva.

The second phase, to complete by 2012-13, will comprise laying of a 1018-km pipeline from Aluva to Mangalore. The pipelines will also have spur-lines and feeder lines connecting other places as well. The phase-II work will also comprise laying pipelines from Palakkad to Bangalore along with spurlines and feeder-lines to Coimbatore, Trippur, Truchengode and Salem.

The 1,389km Dabhol-Bengaluru pipeline will see an investment of Rs4,543.43 crore and will have a capacity of 16 million standard cubic meters per day. This project too will be completed in two phases. Phase one of the project, to be completed by 2011-12, will include a 402km stretch from Dabhol to Gokak with spurlines to Belgaum and Goa.
