The Jeep Compass SUV has once again outsold established competition - the Mahindra XUV500 and the Tata Hexa, while leaving Hyundai Tucson in the dust IndianAutosBlog reports.
The IndianAutosBlog reports that the Compass is now the top-selling premium SUV in the Rs15-25 lakh range.
In terms of numbers, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) sold 2,750 units of the compass while Mahindra made a sale of 1,419 units of the XUV500, while Tata Hexa sold 1,219 units.
The Tucson could only manage to sell 156 units, which is about 5 per cent of the Compass sales.
FCA had a number of Compass units for a safety recall concerning a faulty passenger airbag, however, this minor blip apart, it has been smooth sailing for Jeep's best selling SUV in India.
Also in addition to catering to the Indian car market, Jeep also sells the India-made Compass in many right hand drive markets such as UK, Australia, Japan and Thailand.
The Compass is on offer in India in two trims 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol with 160bhp and 250Nm, and a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel with 170bhp and 350Nm. Both engines get 6-speed manual gearboxes as standard and the petrol engine also gets a 7-speed twin clutch automatic option.
The Compass is available from Jeep in India, with a front wheel drive layout as standard, and the top-end diesel variant gets a 4X4 option. Jeep has plans to introduce 9 speed automatic gearbox on the Compass Diesel next year.
