Junior Lodha not allowed to chair Birla Corp's AGM
27 Jul 2009
The Supreme has refused to allow Harsha Vardhan Lodha, son of the late chairman of the MP Birla Group and the disputed heir to the estates belonging to Madhav Prasadji Birla and Priyamvadaji Birla, Rajendra S Lodha, to chair the annual general meeting of Birla Corp held in Kolkota today.
Harsha Vardhan Lodha was not allowed to chair the AGM amidst high drama over who should chair Birla Corp's AGM in view of the pending court disputes.
The Company Law Board (CLB) had, earlier, prevented Harsh Vardhan Lodha from chairing the AGM, following which he sought a stay from the Supreme Court.
Some Birla family members had challenged RS Lodha's claim that the group chairperson Priyamvada Birla's will had bequeathed the entire assets of the group to Rajendra Lodha.
While refusing to offer relief to Harsh Vardhan Lodha, the SC also directed the Calcutta high court to hear petitions by the Lodhas and the Birlas.
Lodha, meanwhile, claimed that the CLB order is not maintainable.
