M&M renames Logan as `Verito', drops Renault tag
25 Apr 2011
Mahindra & Mahindra has renamed the 'Logan' as 'Verito', a year after it severed ties with the French automaker, and dropped the Renault tag of the entry-level sedan.
"We are delighted to announce that the Logan will now be called the `Verito'. It will sport the Mahindra badge and emblem," the company said in a statement today.
The `Verito' will have new features such as body cladding, new mirrors and body graphics. M&M will, however, keep the price tag unchanged, at least for now.
The Logan was available in both petrol and diesel variants, at prices of Rs4.67 lakh and Rs6.47 lakh (both ex-showroom), respectively.
Mahindra is also working on a compact variant of `Verito' (below 4 metre body length), which will hit the market by early 2012. The compact `Verito', to be positioned with Maruti Dzire and Tata Indigo E-CS, will come with an aggressive price tag.
M&M and Renault parted ways in April last year and the French automaker had then agreed to continue to support M&M and Logan through a licence agreement and supply key components, including the engine and transmission, for a further 18 months.
Renault Pvt Ltd and Mahindra and Mahindra had, in 2005, formed a joint venture to manufacture and sell the Logan in India. Logan, however, failed as commercial venture and hence the two decided to part ways.
Subsequently, M&M acquired Renault's 49-per cent stake in the joint venture for an undisclosed sum.
