Smithkline Beecham Healthcare strengthens board

Smithkline Beecham Consumer Healthcare Limited, the nutritional healthcare leader, while appointing Simon J Scarff as chairman cum managing director at its AGM held on 28 March 2001, has also expanded its board of directors to have 12 members instead of 6. The newly appointed directors are Mr Ashok Dayal, Mr AS Lakshmanan, Mr Kunal Kashyap, Mr P Murari, Ms. Sangita Reddy and Mr SS Dugal.
Apart from Simon J Scraff, three new directors have been nominated by Horlicks Ltd. These are Venkatraman Thyagarajan, head of pharmaceuticals Glaxo Smithkline South Asia, George Quesnelle, vice president & director (established markets) Glaxo Smithkline Consumer Healthcare International and Colin Handcock, director manufacturing Glaxo Smithkline. Company sources maintained that new directors’ diverse expertise will help enhance shareholder value.
Smithkline Beecham Consumer Healthcare Limited, popularly known as SBCH, was established in 1958 and is the largest player in the health food drinks industry. Its flagship product, Horlicks, is a 110 years old brand. Its other products are Eno, Crocin and Aquafresh. The company has its manufacturing plants located in Nabha and Rajamundhry and employs a total workforce of over 2,600 people.
