Amidst the wreckage of the murderous cross-border terror attacks in Mumbai, the management of the iconic Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai said that it is opening its coffers to any victim of the attacks, which ever part of the city it may have taken place in Mumbai on 26 November. As the central and state governments grapple with investigations in the ftermath of the attacks, the Indian Hotels Company has set up a trust fund to aid the injured who need assistance of any kind. Most importantly, this aid is not only for employees or guest of the Taj but even victims at Nariman House, CST railway terminus, Cama Hospital, Leopold Café and even at its rival, the Trident, and elsewhere. There are hundreds of victims of the attack who are being treated at various hospitals in Mumbai who may not have access to funds for treatment. Keeping them in mind, IHC has stepped in to help all those who require money for their treatment till recovery. IHC held its first meeting of board members on Friday who readily agreed to setting up the trust and company vice chairman, R K Krishna Kumar said that this fund was not just for victims at the Taj, but for all victims irrespective of the location of the terror attack which took place in Mumbai late last month. According to media reports, IHC has already identified a victim at the Taj, who is being treated at Bombay Hospital for multiple gun shots and her bills have already accumulated to Rs8 lakhs and according to hospital authorities it may eventually run up to Rs25 lakhs. The Taj management has got in touch with the victims relatives and has told them that all the hospital bills will be paid by the newly formed trust. Ratan Tata had told reporters after the end of the siege at the Taj that the group will not hesitate to help the victims of the attack and also his resolute stand of repairing every inch of the Taj and bring it back to its old grandeur. The Taj Mahal Hotel management had made every Indian proud when defiantly it hoisted the Indian flag in front of the hotel a day after the carnage. Meanwhile international intelligence agencies have lambasted the Indian government for ignoring all warnings related to the attack. India is the third country behind Israel and the US targetted by terrorist, yet the kind of alertness, technology and dissemination of intelligence information it has displayed has come in for sharp criticism. Even the NSG commandos who went in to flush out the terroists, did so without bare essentials like night vision goggles, thermal heat sensors and latest communication gadgets. International intelligence agencies have also rued the fact that due to lack of communication gadgets, a terrorist who was at a window of the Taj was not shot by a sniper although media television crew pictured him long enough for a sniper to bring him down.
