Bharti Airtel Ltd will offer a new facility in India to its subscribers — lost mobile tracking. It has tied up with Micro Technologies Ltd to provide this security feature to Airtel subscribers.

Earlier in June, Mumbai-based Innova Technologies had announced the launch of a similar product, called virtual mobile security (VMS). (See: Mumbai IT firm introduces low-cost mobile security software)

As an outcome of the the Bharti-Micro tie up, Airtel subscribers can secure their mobile handsets using Micro Technologies' lost mobile tracking system.

The application works on GSM technology. This hidden software in the users' mobile informs them about the new mobile number that has been used to replace the users' own mobile number), IMEI Number with the current location of the handset through an SMS alert along with an email to an email address provided by the subscriber.

Airtel subscribers will be able to subscribe for the lost mobile tracking service by contacting the service provider. Airtel will provide the Micro LMTS to its subscribers in Delhi Metro service area to begin with.
