Mumbai: General Motors India has seen a never-before record growth of 95
per cent in sales in October 2007, compared to the corresponding period last year.
GM India sold 6,139
units in October 2007, against 3,153 units during the same month last year, making
it the highest-ever monthly sales figure achieved by GM India since its inception.
The October
2007 sales comprise of 1,769 units of the Chevrolet Tavera, 1,621 units of the
Chevrolet Aveo, 436 units of the Chevrolet Optra and 2,313 units of the Chevrolet
Spark. GM India
has seen a 58 per cent growth for the period of January-October 2007, over the
corresponding period last year, having sold 48,367 units during the period, compared
to 30,686 units between January and October 2006. According
to P Balendran, vice president of GM India, "The sales figures this month
clearly reflect the customer''s confidence in the Chevrolet brand and the consistent
growth in monthly sales is an indication of the success of all our carlines. Achieving
these levels of growth demonstrates Chevrolet has become the most admired and
preferred automotive brand in India in terms of styling, performance, value proposition
and other product attributes." GM
India had announced special pricing from 12th to 22nd October 2007 on the Chevrolet
Spark, as part of the centennial celebrations of General Motors Corporation, which
received an overwhelming response with the company receiving bookings for 12,
000 units of the car during the 10-day offer. Other
cars from the wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation include he
diesel Chevrolet Optra Magnum, the Chevrolet Aveo, the Chevrolet SRV, the hatchback
Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, the Chevrolet Spark and the Chevrolet Tavera.
