GM India has launched an upgraded version of the Chevrolet Aveo U-VA in India.

Apart from this GM Chevrolet Spark also won the J D Power Asia Pacific 2008 award for the best car in the compact car segment.

Chevrolet Aveo U-VA competes against Maruti Swift and Hyundai Getz in India.

The company is also working on launching a new small car in the market next year.

GM president and managing director Karl Slym said the company was planning to turn its engineering centre in Bangalore in to a 'power train hub' for the entire Asia Pacific operations of the company.

The Bangalore centre has 1,600 staff and 100 of them are engaged in research and development.

GM plans to take the investment in India to $1 billion by 2010 and has invested $500 million so far in the country. The staff at Bangalore deals with designs that matched consumer preferences and Indian road and driving conditions.

According to Karl Slym the company is looking at a market share of 10 per cent by 2010, from the present share of little over 4 per cent.
