Chennai: Hutchinson Essar South, the cellular phone service provider in Chennai, has made recharging of cellular phone SIM cards simple by its 'direct top-up' service.

Under this, Hutch prepaid users in Chennai can now recharge their cards by simply sending an SMS (short messaging service) or walking into the closest ATMs (automatic teller machine) of HDFC Bank, UTI Bank, and IDBI.

Plans are also afoot to extend the same to the customers of Citibank and State Bank of India.

With this service, for the first time, prepaid subscribers will have the flexibility to recharge for any amount between Rs 315 and Rs 5,000.
