With its Windows Phone 7 hitting the US market this week, Microsoft mounted a unique campaign to discredit Apple's iPhone and Google Android system, highlighting their 'faulty' design.

The software giant is aggressively extending its "Really"  You Tube campaign to the street. For this it has roped in a number of  TV stars to drive home the message that badly designed competitors' smart phones have spawned bad phone behaviour among users.

Under the 'Really Rally Road Trip' campaign launched yesterday, Microsoft is taking popular TV stars Rob Dyrdek and actress Minka Kelly across the country to show how Windows Phone 7 scores over rival smart phones.

The phones are manufactured by Samsung and HTC and feature 'tiles' on its screen to allow users to quickly glance at email or Facebook or other applications.

To bolster its campaign, Microsoft is citing a new survey it commissioned and released yesterday to complement the launch of Windows Phone 7 in a bid to take its rivals head on.

According to Microsoft the cross-country survey confirmed the US was a country chock full of "Bad Mobile Phone Behavior", with three-quarters of users admitting poor phone etiquette among their top 10 pet peeves, Microsoft said.
