Packard Bell NEC has introduced a sleek
flat-panel PC, Z1 which matches Apple''s iMac in style and looks. Z1 is a slate
greyish-green and light grey- coloured computer with the style and technology initiated by
iMac.
This two toned, flat-panelled PC incorporates
an intelligent design, which makes it easy to use and light on the eyes. Z1 comes with a
wireless keyboard, which has the functions of a mouse in a separate key but has a
provision to attach a separate mouse.
It requires just two connections, the power
cord and the telephone line. Z1 runs on the new 450 megahertz Intel Pentium III processor
and has a 15 inch flat monitor panel screen. This flat monitor panel screen is attached to
the chassis like the composite models earlier. It also includes a removable 8.4-gigabyte
hard disk drive, a DVD ROM drive and built in speakers. The base of the Z1(footprint) is
the size of a standard piece of paper, that is, about 10 inches. This makes it about 5
times smaller than a regular desktop PC and it weighs only half as much as a regular PC.
Mr.Mal Ransom, senior vice
president Packard Bell NEC Inc, consumer division, said that the company is dealing with
the consumer and not techies and that Z1 is the ultimate achievement in the
design of PC.
At $2,499 the Z1 is above the cost of the
normal desktop PC and is targeted on the upscale design conscious consumers
