Hyderabad: Satyam Computer Services (NYSE: SAY), a leading global provider of IT services, has launched its largest global development center (GDC) outside India in Melbourne, Australia. This GDC will serve as a major technological development and software support centre for the company's Asia Pacific operations. Satyam opened its first Australian development center in Sydney in November 2001.

Speaking of the launch Ramalinga Raju, chairman of Satyam Computer Services said, "The formal establishment of Melbourne's GDC is yet another milestone in Satyam's efforts to seamlessly deliver world class solutions to our customers. Further, we also believe there is considerable business opportunity in Australia for companies such as Satyam. This GDC forms an integral part of Satyam's business continuity process model which allows seamless support to our global clients," he added.

The GDC was declared open by the Victoria's Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Marsha Thomson and B Ramalinga Raju, in the presence of Prabhat P Shukla, High Commissioner of India to Australia .

"We believe there is considerable business opportunity in Australia for companies such as Satyam," said Marsha Thompson. Over the last decade, Indian companies like Satyam have been paving the way in software and other IT services. Having a SEI-CMM Level 5 accredited company, such as Satyam, open a global development center here in Melbourne, certainly raises the bar for the local ICT industry," she added.

The GDC, a 300-seat capacity center with a built-up area of 3,000 sq meters, is equipped with top-of-the-line infrastructure and videoconferencing facilities, and high-end security features such as the biometric (finger-print) identification system. This state-of-the-art center will provide end-to-end IT services to Satyam's Australian and international clients with 24 / 7 access to its global knowledge repository, which can be leveraged to deliver cutting-edge solutions to customers across the globe.

The new GDC serves as the perfect vehicle to assist Satyam in its current plans to undertake new opportunities for clients in the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan.

Says Virender Aggarwal, senior vice president and head of Satyam's Asia Pacific region.,"Through the GDC, Satyam will share its matured processes and hope to bring greater value to the Australian economy by building technological competencies and harnessing the IT talents of Australia."
