Mumbai: Satyam Computer Services Ltd. (NYSE: SAY), has announced the successful implementation of a web-based 'geographical information system' (WGIS) in ArcGIS platform for land management, planning and marketing for Singapore-based industrial development company, JTC Corporation.

JTC is is the lead agency in Singapore to plan, promote and develop high quality industrial facilities and is the master developer for a 200-hectare development for R&D, biomedical, infocomm and media industries.

The new web-based GIS replaces its existing GIS system, first implemented in 1993, that imported textual data and graphic information from related data sources to generate plans, maps and other graphical data and then stored them in DGN files for analysis. The previous procedures used for allocating and parcelling of land required three days to complete, and longer if customers changed their requirements.

In contrast, the new WGIS system is empower officers to undertake land parcelling and generate allocation plans for clients interactively, thereby reducing the turnaround time in servicing customers.

WGIS leverages on its single sign-on active directory infrastructure and incorporates seamless integration features with the other existing application systems in the organisation.
The implementation of WGIS using ArcGIS 9.0 server is one of the first implementations in Asia.

Commenting on the functionality of the state-of-the-art technology, Virender Aggarwal, Director, Senior Vice President and Head of Satyam's Singapore-based Asia-Pacific operations said, "The primary challenge here was to translate and optimise the business processes of JTC into web and desktop applications, which was successfully implemented."
