Mumbai:
Seagate Technology has announced that consumer electronics
giant Toshiba has selected Seagate consumer electronics
(CE) hard drives for Toshiba''s new HDD and DVD recorder,
RD-XS31 the industry''s first DVD multi-drive video
recorder.
Seagate''s
hard drive provides the RD-XS31 with up to 104 hours of
recording time for TV shows. It also provides the cache
storage that allows programmes to be archived to DVD-RAM,
DVD-RW and DVD-R formats.
"Leveraging
Seagate''s proven storage technology, the innovative RD-XS31
from Toshiba continues to redefine the world of home entertainment,"
says Hiroyuki Tokoro, technology executive, Digital Media
Network of Toshiba. "Seagate has worked closely with
Toshiba''s product design team to deliver top dubbing performance
for the highest quality recording and meeting Toshiba''s
requirements of high throughput for maximum-speed HDD-to-DVD
dubbing. We continue to look to Seagate disc drive technology
leadership in consumer electronics to help bring our storage-driven
products to a new level."
"Toshiba''s
new product is the result of a successful technology and
engineering partnership between Seagate and Toshiba,"
says Tom Kobayashi, Seagate vice-president and regional
director, Japan sales and representative director, Nippon
Seagate. "We are excited about the direction Toshiba
is pursuing in the convergence of digital entertainment
content, taking better advantage of hard drives to help
consumers control their entertainment experience. Toshiba''s
endorsement of our best-in-class disc drives highlights
Seagate''s clear strengths in developing hard drive technology
for consumer electronics and in helping CE manufacturers
design and optimise their storage-driven products."
Seagate
CE hard drives deliver the features CE manufacturers ask
for quiet acoustics, efficient power use, high
reliability and top streaming performance. With easy-to-use
stream management commands, Seagate''s CE drives are optimised
for the sequential work of streaming continuous A/V files.
Seagate CE drives'' power management technology uses less
peak power at start-up than other drives in their class,
and Seagate drives are the world''s quietest, for pure
audio enjoyment with virtually no discernible operating
sound.
Seagate
is the only hard drive company to provide consumer electronics
manufacturers with a comprehensive alliance products,
technology and services. Seagate design service centres
(DSC) continue the company''s leadership in helping CE
manufacturers optimise their mechanical, electronic, and
software environments to take better advantage of the
hard drive. DSC services increase reliability, speed time-to-market,
and decrease development costs.
Seagate''s
specialised CE hard drives and unique CE services provide
storage for the new world of digital entertainment, enabling
personal video recorders (PVR), video game consoles, audio
jukeboxes, home media centres and networked entertainment
systems.
