New Delhi: State-owned steel major, the Steel Authority of India (SAIL) said Wednesday it had entered into a supply agreement with two prominent defence construction agencies, the Military Engineering Services and Married Accommodation Project, for the supply of 3 lakh tonnes of steel items worth Rs100 crore.

"The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has signed memoranda of understanding with the Military Engineering Services (MES) and the Married Accommodation Project (MAP) for assured supply of superior grade construction steel on a regular basis for their infrastructure development," SAIL said in a statement here.

SAIL would supply mainly earthquake-resistant SAIL-TMT rebars, the statement added.

While SAIL would benefit in terms of assured orders, the defence establishments will have committed supplies of these steel products, the statement said.

SAIL has already developed special grade steel for use by defence agencies for making armoured vehicles, tanks, warships and aircraft carriers.
