Third generation anti-tank missile Nag completes development trials

New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has announced the successful test firing of the third generation fire and forget anti-tank guided missile, Nag (Cobra) over  the last two days. The missile was fired on stationary and moving targets over a range of 4 km.

The tests took place at the Pokhran range in Rajasthan in the presence of top army officials and confirmed all system capabilities of the Nag missile, striking the targets precisely.

Nag missile carrier NAMICADr. Prahlada, chief controller, DRDO and chairman, Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP), expressed happiness on the programme reaching the last milestone.

A DRDO statement said that for the first time the Army witnessed the tests of the production version of Nag missile carrier (NAMICA), made by Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL), and missiles produced by Bharat Dynamics Ltd.

The NAG missile has both top and front attack capability with a passive homing guidance achieved through an imaging infrared (IIR) seeker system.

With these trials, the development flights stand completed and the Nag system is now ready for user trials, the statement said. It also said that the mobility of the carrier in desert terrain has also been comprehensively demonstrated.
