New Delhi: Total plan expenditure in the budget, presented by finance minister PC Chidambaram today, is pegged at Rs243,386 crore, while non-plan expenditure is estimated at Rs507,498 crore. The fiscal deficit for 2008-09 has been estimated at Rs133,287 crore, which is 2.5 per cent of GDP. Revenue deficit is estimated at Rs55,184 crore. The finance minister said that significant liabilities of the Government on account of oil, food and fertiliser bonds are currently below the line. He also said that after the obligations on account of the Sixth Central Pay Commission became clear he would request the Thirteenth Finance Commission to revisit the roadmap for fiscal adjustments.
