New bill to allow foreign universities enter India

The union cabinet has approved a proposal that will clear the way for foreign universities to set up campuses and offer degrees in India.
The proposal, which will need the parliament's ratification, is expected to benefit thousands of Indian students who opt to pursue studies abroad.
The move is being seen as a higher education reform initiative prompted by concerns of a projected shortfall in the number of qualified graduates.
Thousands of English-speaking Indians enroll for residential courses in universities in the US, Australia, Canada and other countries every year.
Despite having several top quality educational institutions, India is still unable to meet the growing demand for quality higher education.
According to analysts, the booming economy will face a short supply of over half a million qualified graduates in the next five years.
