India is among the handful of countries to register a growth in automobile sales for five month in a row this year as overall automobile sales grew by 14 per cent in June. The upward growth momentum was maintained in June due to new models introduced by automakers, huge demand from the semi-urban and rural areas and lower interest rates on auto loans. Total vehicle sales grew by 14 per cent at 9.17 lakh units against 8.02 lakh units in June last year. According to monthly data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), passenger car sales rose 7.8 per cent in June to 107,531 cars compared to 99,741 sold a year earlier. Maruti Suzuki India, Hyundai, Honda and Tata motors saw their sales grow in June boosted to an extent with new models introduced in the market in May with Maruti introducing the Ritz, Honda, Jazz and Fiat Grande Punto. Maruti Suzuki India registered a growth of 11.77 per cent with 54,693 units sold in June, over 48,935 units sold in the same month last year, while Fiat SpA's, sales grew to 2,464 units in June from 500 a year ago.
