Car sales rose 33 per cent YoY in February on anticipated tax hike news

Car sales in India were up an annual 33 per cent in February, as customers flocked to showrooms to beat the tax rise in the budget, according to an industry body.

Data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) showed that auto companies sold 153,845 cars in February compared to 115,505 units a year ago.

Sales of trucks and buses too were up 87 per cent at 58,024 units for the month SIAM said.

Motorcycle sales too were up 31 per cent in February.

Total vehicles sales across categories were up 34.98 per cent at 11,29,783 units in February against 8,37,017 units in the same period last year, SIAM added.
