CWC, FACT to jointly set up container freight station at Cochin

The Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) together with Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd (FACT) will soon set up a container freight station at Cochin, Kerala.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by K V Thomas, minister of state for agriculture, consumer affairs, food and public distribution with B B Pattanaik,  CMD of CWC and George Sleeba, CMD of FACT, a government release said.

The project, which will use state-of-the-art technology, infrastructure and other facilities, will start in July-August. The Rs60 crore project will help in the economic development of the region and will provide employment opportunities to local people. The freight station will be set up in 25 acre vacant land available with FACT.

The companies are expected to present a working model of the project to their respective boards for approval soon, so that the project starts immediately thereafter.

CWC proposes to construct more warehousing facilities in Kerala wherever land is made available by the state government for such facility, including Kuttand, where no much facilities are available now, the release added.
