Incorporated in 1913, Ahmedabad Electricity Company  (AEC) is engaged in the generation and distribution of electricity predominantly in the state of Gujarat. The company   undertakes electrical installation, operations and maintenance assignments of other power stations. AEC tapped the capital market in 1993 for setting up boiler replacement-cum-retrofitting stations and various other systems for transmission distribution networks. On the financial front, the company's performance had slipped for a short time but is now on a comeback trail. Ahmedabad is a leading industrial centre and is the home of many major companies. BSES Limited

The Bombay Suburban Electric Supply Company  (BSES), a west-based private sector power entity has grown at a fast pace. Besides distribution of power in the licensed regions of Mumbai, BSES also undertakes electrification and erection contracts.  It operates through thermal power stations located on the city's outskirts and has a power plant located at Dahanu. The company can boast of having a huge retail base, notably most of these are primarily residential customers. Extending its activities in different avenues, its offspring, BSES Telecom, is   making provision for value-added services in software and computer services, communication and cellular mobile telephone network. The future prospects of the company are bright as its Dahanu Project has overcome its initial problems and it is functioning at an optimum capacity utilisation. On the financial front the company's performance has been satisfactory. BSES governs the power supply in Mumbai, which is the industrial capital of India. Thus, the company appears to be in good stead for the future.
