Rural electrification projects completed in 61,542 villages

Electrification work has been carried out in 61,542 villages (as on 3 August 2007) under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) since its launch in April 2005, power minister Sushilkumar Shinde said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today.
The implementing states so far have availed Rs5367.90 crore uptill 3rd August 2007 under RGGVY.
The action plan for implementation of the scheme is:

Single point electric connections to the rural persons below poverty line are being given free of cost for which the state governmet. / agencies are being provided grant amount Rs1500 per below poverty line connection under RGGVY.
