Five firms, including state-run NTPC, Anil Ambani-led Reliance Power and Sterling Energy, have submitted bids for the 4000 MW Tilaiya ultra mega power project (UMPP) in Jharkhand.
The other two bidders are Lanco Infratech Ltd and Jindal Steel and Power Ltd, sources close to the bidding process said.
Lanco has bid along with Malaysia-based Genting Sanyen Power Sdn Bhd.
The Tilaiya project, one of the nine UMPPs planned across the country, is estimated to cost about Rs18,000 crore.
Power Finance Corporation, which conducts the bidding process for the UMPPs, is likely to award the contract within the next four weeks, a senior company official said.
The two-part bidding consists of a technical and a financial bid for the project. The technical bids have been opened today and after evaluating them, the financial bids will be opened and the project may be awarded within two weeks after that, sources said.
