Newsweek taps JP Mobile and Sprint for wireless email news

Hyderabad: Newsweek, one of the top three news weeklies in the US and a division of The Washington Post Company, has opted for the SureWaveÒ Mobile Office solution, a secure wireless e-mail and personal information management (PIM) for its IT staff, sales professionals and management staff provided by JP Mobile in association with Sprint (NYSE: FON).

Integrated with a variety of Sprint PCS VisionSM Smart Devices, SureWave Mobile Office solution provides Newsweek staff with immediate wireless access to IBM Lotus Domino corporate e-mail, PIM and other Notes-based productivity applications such as customer relationship management (CRM) and sales force automation (SFA). Wireless devices presently being used by Newsweek executives, sales professionals and IT staff include the Sprint PCS Vision Smart Device Treoä 600 by palmOneä and the Sprint PCS Vision Smart Device (Samsung i500).

"It's not always practical to lug around and boot up a laptop in order to access e-mail while on the road." says Leonard J Carella, vice president and chief technology officer for Newsweek. "We needed a more convenient solution for remote access, one that that would allow our senior execs and sales professionals to stay connected using wireless devices they could always have with them," he adds.

Carella explains, "We are primarily a Domino shop, so it was vital that the solution support Notes. The vendors worked closely with us as we ran through a short pilot program and then rolled the solution out to our executive team and sales force."
