Lionbridge to transfer European software testing to India news

Chennai: The $154-million revenue Lionbridge Technologies Inc, a software development, testing and content localisation and translation services company has decided to shift its software testing from Europe to India.

According to COO, Satish Maripuri, "Some of our customers are moving to India and they want us to be there. In addition, many of our testing labs in Europe are a high cost centre."

Lionbridge has opened a 20,000sq.ft-software testing centre in Chennai. "We will be initially hiring around 250 developers, test engineers and project managers. We will later increase the numbers," said Maripuri.

Declining to reveal the investment that has gone into the Chennai facility, Jay Sitaram, general manager and vice president, India Operations, said, "The company has plans to invest in India over $2 million."

Lionbridge came to India by taking over the Mumbai-based Mentorix for $28 million in 2003. Mentorix was a provider of e-learning content development, programme management and applicatin development and maintenance solutions company. According to Sitaram, the company was successfully integrated with the parent company.
