Hyderabad: Serena Software (Nasdaq: SRNA), the world's largest company solely focused on managing change in the IT environment, has announced new capabilities for Serena® ChangeMan® Professional™ that give the popular suite (formerly known as PVCS) the industry's most sophisticated process and version management for team application development.

Professional 9 has been upgraded to include Serena® TeamTrack®, a web-architected, secure, and highly configurable issue and process management solution that has been integrated with Serena® ChangeMan® Version Manager™.

Development managers and developers working in fast-paced, often globally distributed environments now have a powerful weapon for improving visibility and control over all development issues, boosting quality, and ensuring applications are delivered on time and on budget.

In addition, more robust traceability, control and enforcements in Professional 9 provide important support for compliance with regulatory requirements. Professional now supports electronic signatures, ensuring that changes are executed only by authorised personnel and are recorded within audit trails.

Further, by automating the change management process, Professional 9 helps enforce requirements to ensure regulatory and audit compliance.

Rich new integrations of professional 9 with Microsoft VS.NET and Eclipse-based IDEs improve development team productivity by allowing developers to stay in their preferred development environment and seamlessly work in parallel through enhancements that automate and synchronise local changes with the project database.

"Professional 9's integration with TeamTrack is very robust, and by allowing developers to access the application lifecycle tools inside their preferred IDE, we have been able to increase productivity and achieve process efficiency," said Steve Skinner, technology specialist at CPI Corp. He added, "Most importantly, with Serena Professional we have developed an enforceable, repeatable process for successful software development that allows us to meet compliance requirements while delivering high-quality applications."

Other enhancements in Professional 9 facilitate communication and collaboration across distributed teams, including a new web-based user interface that easily extends the benefits of Professional to internal and external stakeholders such as quality assurance managers, build managers, outsourced developers, and others.

"As IT departments increasingly incorporate development teams across various geographic locations, they are continuously challenged to adapt quickly to changing projects, while keeping development costs down," said Michael Azoff, senior research analyst with leading analyst firm Butler Group. "Technologies that manage and control the application development process from version, issue / defect and task to build activities can alleviate this pressure, while improving the quality, productivity and predictability of distributed development projects."
