12 February 2008

Mumbai: F-Secure Corporation has posted a new advisory on its web log, advising Internet users against a new Valentine Storm computer worm that is going around the Internet.

According to the advisory, F-Secure says that email messages with "new subject lines such as "Love Rose", "Rockin' Valentine", and "Just You", directs recipients to a site that hosts a malicious download. In its web log, F-Secure says that this is the second run of the spam campaign, with the first one having run less than a month ago. "As we blog, we detect this as Email-Worm:W32/Zhelatin.TQ.", a statement from the company said. The website produces random images with each visit and then the filename, valentine.exe. in the first run, it produced the file withlove.exe, and had earlier detected the Storm worm as "Email-Worm:W32/Zhelatin.PY."

F-Secure has recommended that users keep their virus definitions up to date, and computer patched to prevent being a part of the Storm botnet this Valentine's Day.
