Nintendo to ink deal with HarperCollins for Shakespeare, Dickens books news
08 December 2008

Nintendo is all set to bring smiles to faces of classic booklovers. The Japanese video games company is all set to sign a deal with publisher HarperCollins to make literary classics available to read on its DS portable games consoles.

The 100 Classic Book Collection on which the deal was made will initially be available in Britain. The collection ranges from Shakespeare and Dickens to Jane Austen and the Brontė sisters, and is priced at £20 pounds. You can actually turn the pages by simply brushing a finger across the screen.

If the collection turns out to be a success Nintendo has plans to expand its offerings as do other companies trying to bring you books on screen.

Two million Nintendo DS machines have been sold in Britain, according to the latest industry figures from Chart Track. If you are travelling and wish to read there couldn't be a lighter option and you can carry the whole classic library with you. Imagine carrying around a thick paperback.

Like the perfect X'mas present, Nintendo will release the 100 Classic Book Collection on December 26. This is the first in the series based on Nintendo's strategy of expanding the audience for its products.
