Facebook, the social networking site that serves over 400 million users worldwide, has announced its plan to open a centre in Hyderabad.

The Indian announcement follows its plan to invest in Austin, Texas, announced last week.

The new centres will assist in catering to the vast Facebook users and advertisers by providing better round-the-clock and multi-lingual support.

Hiring for the Hyderabad operations has already commenced with Don Faul, director, global online operations, Facebook, landing in India yesterday.

The hunt is on for the India head who would set up a team and work with advertisers and partners in India as well as provide support to those in North America and Western Europe regions, Faul told The Economic Times. It is also looking for IT security heads, online sales managers and local language specialists.

Seventy per cent of Facebook users are outside the US and are accessing the service using more than 70 languages.

The website said that in India, more than 8 million people actively use Facebook to connect with their friends, family, and others whom they know.
