Market ends higher: ONGC, Tata Motors, GAIL, HPCL up

The markets ended near the highest point of the day with heavy buying seen in late trade. Cues from global peers were encouraging with most of the Asia ending in green and Europe opening higher. Broader markets have outperformed the frontliners giving markets positive breadth. Frontliners like ONGC, Tata Motors, M&M and HPCL ended firm. Barring IT all the BSE sector indices ended in green.

Steel and energy stocks are the flavour of the day. GAIL, HPCL, BPCL were trading strong. Even auto stocks were looking smart in today''s trade. However, select IT and FMCG counters were under pressure.

On the Sensex the top gainers were Tata Motors, ONGC, Cipla & M&M were top gainers.

Top gainers on the Nifty were GAIL, HPCL, Sun Pharma and ONGC. 

Among the other buzzing stocks were Broadcast Initiatives, WWIL, Hind Motors, FDC, Kajari, Soma Textiles, Man Aluminium and Escorts.

Infosys, ITC, Satyam, HCL TEch and VSNL were among the top laggards on the indices.
