Market ends near day's high: Realty, power, metal, bks rally
14 February 2008
The markets ended near day's high on the back of heavy buying seen in scrips across sectors. The rally was led by realty, power, metal and banking stocks. Global cues have been very supportive today as Asia ended strong following another day of gains on Wall Street. Broader markets also ended higher in line with frontline counters. BSE midcap and smallcap index closed higher inline with the fronliners. Market breadth was also very encouraging but the volumes were a disappointment.
Sensex was up 817.49 points or 4.82% at 17766.63, and the Nifty up 272.55 points or 5.53% at 5202.00.
About 2146 shares have advanced, 819 shares declined, and 52 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 7,452.72 up 5%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 9,407.76 up 4%.
The BSE Bankex was up 4.6% at 10,614.09. IOB, ICICI Bank, Centurion bank, Axis closed in green.
