A strong closing by the US indices on Friday is helping markets across Asia today. Crude prices are still around the $60 per barrel mark further helping sentiment across the region.

The Sensex opened higher at 10796 and soon crossed the 10800 mark. The index saw a new lifetime intra-day high of 10884 and is trading higher by 86 points at 10851 at 11.10 AM.

The Nifty opened at 3184 and crossed 3200 for the first time in early trades. The index saw a new lifetime high of 3221 in early trades and is trading higher by 28 points at 3212.

Telecom stocks are continuing their rally from last week. VSNL is the biggest gainer among index stocks and is trading over 2.5 per cent higher. MTNL has added over 2 per cent.

Reliance Communication Ventures is trading more than 6 per cent higher, helped by the reorganisation proposal of the various telecom operations. Bharti has gained over 1.5 per cent.

Technology stocks are firm, led by TCS. The stock has gained around 2.5 per cent. Wipro has gained 2 per cent while Satyam has added over 1.5 per cent. Infosys is trading firm by a per cent.

Another sector in the limelight today is FMCG. Dabur has gained close to 2.5 per cent while HLL has gained over a per cent.

Tata Chemicals, Glaxo and Tata Steel are among the other major gainers.

The losers among Nifty stocks have lost only marginally. Tata Motors, ABB and Hero Honda are trading lower today.

Mid-caps are also doing well and the mid-cap index has gained close to a per cent. The market breadth is positive with nearly 3 advancing shares for every declining share.

There is no stopping RNRL today as well. The stock is locked in the 10 per cent upper circuit.

Genus Overseas, Aurionpro and Essar Oil are among the major gainers in mid-caps.
