Dataquest-IDC-NASSCOM survey of best tech schools

Gurgaon: With an ever-increasing number of technical colleges and lack of standard evaluation procedures to judge the value of such colleges, Dataquest, IDC and Nasscom have concluded an evaluation, which will be conducted annually to rank different technology schools. To gain a perspective from potential employers, the perception of IT companies will also be taken into account in the ranking.

The DQ-IDC-Nasscom survey has taken into account both objective assessment of the institutes and perception of the recruiters. Four broad components of the objective assessment are placement, infrastructure, intellectual capital and industry interface. 116 engineering colleges from across the country participated in the study.

Highlights:

  • Not surprisingly, IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras and IIT Kharagpur were rated at the top.
  • IT BHU, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology and Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology featured in the perceived 'heavyweights' removing BITS Pilani and DCE from the top 10.
  • IIT Delhi is the only premier institute that is not covered in this exercise as it opted not to participate.
  • IIT Guwahati, ranked third on objective assessment and number 21 in recruiters' perception.
  • BITS Pilani enjoys an impressive fifth position among recruiters while on objective assessment scores way below at 25th rank.

Commenting on IIT Guwahati's ranking, Parijat Chakraborty, head, user and communication research, IDC India, said, "This new IIT is yet to establish its brand image among the recruiters, as compared to its elder brothers. However, they are doing a better job in putting their houses in order."
