Gautam Adani, the Chairman of Adani Group, has emphasized the substantial progress made by the conglomerate’s cement arm in its journey towards sustainability. Adani revealed the group’s ambitious plan to power 60% of its cement production through renewable sources by 2028, expressing confidence in Adani Group’s potential to become a leader in sustainable cement production.

Adani highlighted the significant role played by Ambuja and ACC, emphasizing that more than 90% of their cement production is now composed of blended cement, recycling waste fly ash, and slag. This significant shift not only contributes to the environmental footprint of cement but also signifies a substantial step towards sustainability. The commitment to powering a majority of cement production with renewable energy by 2028 positions Adani Group as a frontrunner on the global stage for sustainable cement production.

In May 2023, Ambuja Cements announced plans to expand its blended cement production capacity by 14 million metric tons over five years. Orders were placed to expand clinker capacity by 8 million tons at two units operating on green or renewable energy. This expansion aligns to increase the production of blended green cement by 14 million tons. Ambuja CEO Ajay Kapur outlined the company’s broader strategy, aiming to double production capacity over the next five years from the current capacity of 67.5 million tons per year.

Highlighting the Adani Group’s significant presence in the cement sector, Adani executed the largest acquisition in the cement industry in September 2022, valued at $6.50 billion. Adani holds a majority stake of 63.15% in Ambuja Cements and 55.69% in ACC, solidifying its position as the largest cement manufacturer in the country.

In the context of COP28, Gautam Adani, in a recent post on social media platform X, highlighted Adani Electricity’s distinctive green initiatives. He stated that they were on course to provide 60% renewable electricity to Mumbai by 2027, setting a global record for a major city. Currently, over 38% of the electricity supply is sourced from green energy. Adani Group achieved a significant milestone during Diwali by powering Mumbai entirely with 100% renewable energy, reaffirming their dedication to a sustainable future.
