Dr A P J Abdul Kalam gave away the first ever ''Lakshmipat Singhania-IIML
national leadership awards'' for 2004, for their leadership business, science
and technology, community service and social upliftment at the Vigyan Bhavan
in New Delhi. Ratan
N Tata, chairman, Tata group received the award for rejuvenating Telco and
TATA Steel by inducting a new corporate culture while carrying on the legacy
of ethical and good corporate governance practices was honoured for his
leadership and excellence in business. Dr
R A Mashelkar was chosen for promoting excellence in science and technology. Ela
Bhatt, founder of SEWA, was chosen for her contribution to the movement
for self-reliance and empowerment of women and marginal workers. IIM
Lucknow has to instituted the ''Lakshmipat Singhania-IIML national leadership
awards'' in association with, JK Industries Ltd., Lakshmipat Singhania Education
Foundation and JK Paper Ltd of the JK Organisation. Speaking
on the occasion, Hari Shankar Singhania, chairman, JK Group, said, "Lakshmipat
Singhania was a visionary, a pioneer, an entrepreneur, an industrialist,
a humanitarian and a leader of outstanding qualities. These awards named
after him, are an effort to
acknowledge and honour men and women who are impacting in transforming our
great country for the better through their tireless endeavours."
