ERJ
145 jets family reaches ten million flight-hour milestone
14 November 2006
São
José dos Campos: Embraer
announces that the ERJ 145 platform has reached an historical
ten million flight-hour milestone after a decade in service.
The total number of cycles (take-off and landing procedures)
is around 8.5 million. The first aircraft delivered have already
achieved 20,000 flight cycles and continue to operate with
sound structural integrity.
The ERJ 145 family, in operation
since 1996, has represented a completely new market offering,
with jets tailored to the specific needs of the regional airline
customer. As a result of efficient product design and effective
customer support, the worldwide fleet has experienced excellent
dispatch reliability levels, plus the low operational and
maintenance costs valued by operators.
Nearly 1,000 aircraft based
on the ERJ 145 platform have been delivered by Embraer, to
this date, and fly for 87 operators: 26 in North America,
ten in Latin America, 36 in Europe, three in Africa, and 12
in Asia. China's HNA Group recently ordered 50 ERJ 145 jets
from Harbin Embraer Aircraft Industry (HEAI), a joint venture
with China's AVIC II.
The ERJ 145 family aircraft
are suited for high-frequency use and operate up to 3,000
hours per year. The unique family design offers airlines a
95 percent commonality of parts and systems, plus the same
flight crew type rating. The ERJ 145 regional jet family comprises
the 37-seat ERJ 135, the 44-seat ERJ 140, the 50-seat ERJ
145 and the ERJ 145 XR, which is an extended-range version
of the original ERJ 145.
Embraer regional jets (ERJs)
have been a very flexible tool for airlines to adapt their
operations to different scenarios. When markets are in expansion,
ERJs increase the actuation area by adding more spokes to
carrier hubs, in addition to offering more route frequencies,
supplementing mainline jet capacity, introducing secondary-to-secondary
market services, and opening new, long and thin routes with
small, low-risk capacity. On the other hand, in more critical
market scenarios, ERJs have been instrumental in helping mainline
carriers defend their competitive market position by maintaining
high route frequencies, preserving network integrity and overall
market presence, replacing unprofitable mainline jet services
and right-sizing aircraft capacity to demand.
ERJ 145 XR jet Based on the
ERJ 135 platform, the Legacy business jet, available in both
executive (Legacy 600) and shuttle versions, introduced Embraer
to the executive jet market and is also used for transporting
government authorities. Currently, 85 Legacy jets fly in 18
countries worldwide.
The ERJ 145 platform was
also the basis for developing the highly successful Intelligence,
Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft family, already
in operation in the air forces of Brazil, Mexico and Greece
ERJ 145 jets carry over 150,000 passengers every day worldwide,
transporting more passengers at greater speeds and over longer
distances than turboprops. They facilitate right-sizing the
routes on which larger aircraft are under-booked, continually
creating business opportunities for airlines.
