GIST, IHS partner with INDEST for sales of IEEE/IEL products

Mumbai: Global Information Systems Technology (GIST), India's leading integrated information solutions provider, and Information Handling Services (IHS) have partnered with Indian National Digital Library in Science and Technology (INDEST) for exclusive distribution of IEEE/IEE Electronic Library (IEL), a single source to almost one third of the world's current electrical engineering and computer science literature, products to academic institutions in India.

GIST has taken the initiative to promote better, faster and more cost-effective ways of providing electronic information resources to engineering and technical institutes in India. With this partnership academic engineering institutes in India can now have access to the IEL content, exclusively distributed by GIST In India, at highly discounted rates ranging from around 30 per cent to 90 per cent depending on the category of institution.

The INDEST consortium is set up by the ministry of human resource development (MHRD) in India and its membership is open to any private or government-funded engineering, technological, educational institution or university for one or more electronic resources.

The INDEST consortium will not only benefit the major technological institutions in the country (including IITs, IISc, NITs, RECs, IIITs and others) but it also enables all AICTE-accredited and UGC-affiliated institutions to join hands with leading engineering and technological institutions in India and share the benefits it offers in terms of extremely low subscription rates and beneficial terms of agreement with the publishers.

The INDEST consortium () has been set up by MHRD on the recommendation made by the expert group appointed by the ministry. The consortium will operate through its headquarter being set up at IIT-Delhi. By subscribing to the INDEST consortium the institutes in India can avail the benefit of wider access to electronic resources at affordable cost and at the best terms and conditions.
