Santro dearer by Rs3,500 as Hyundai hikes prices

Mumbai: Hyundai Motor India has hiked car prices across models, including the popular Santro, in the face of rising costs of inputs and freight.
The Santro will now cost Rs3,500 more while the premium model Getz will be dearer by Rs1,601-2,601, a company official said. The increase in prices are effective July 12.
The price of the mid-size Accent will go up by Rs1,600-2,600, depending on the variant, while the Elantra sedan will cost Rs6,300 more. The CRDi LP variant of the Elantra will be dearer by Rs26,300 while the luxury sedan Sonata and the SUV Tuscon will see a marginal hike of Rs700.
Hyundai India's plant near Chennai rolls out the Santro and Getz hatchbacks, as also the Accent, Elantra and Sonata sedans. The company also imports fully-built Tucson SUVs from South Korea.
A unit of South Korea's Hyundai Motor Co, Hyundai Motor India, reported a 40 per cent rise in sales, at 27,251 units, in June this year. Domestic sales rose 56 per cent to 17,032 units, while exports rose about 19 per cent to 10,219 vehicles, a company statement said.
Hyundai saw sales of 252,851 units in 2005, up more than 17 per cent from the previous year.
