Kirloskar achieves compliance of new CPCB emission norms

New Delhi: Kirloskar, India's leading brand of gensets and diesel engine manufacturers, is the first company in India to achieve compliance of Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) mass emission and smoke norms.

The implementation of these norms is scheduled for 1 July 2003 and Kirloskar engines used in the generating sets are already type test approved as per the above GSR by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), Pune. These engines are thus already available to generating set manufacturers to produce environment friendly generating sets to meet the new emission norm requirements.

GSR 371(E) concerning noise and emission from generating sets is unprecedented anywhere in the world in the level of its stringency. Given the fact that generating sets by their very usage pattern in India raise issues of environmental safety, deems it necessary to reach these stringent regulatory conditions. Wide spread usage, for long hours, in densely populated areas and at times even inside public buildings, makes it imperative that generating sets satisfy these compliance norms.

Kirloskar engines are manufactured in an environmentally friendly plant at Pune that was certified under ISO 14001 in February 1999.
