Mumbai: Engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro Ltd is doubling capacity at its automation facility at Mahape, Navi Mumbai, as part of its aggressive growth plans.
From its existing 50,000-sq. ft., the control and automation (C&A) facility will be enlarged to 120,000 sq. ft. The project is scheduled for completion by May 2007, company's chairman and managing director A M Naik said in a communique.
''''Our vision, strategy and action are in line with the ongoing growth in business automation integration. Our plan is to have the necessary base infrastructure with a long-term perspective in mind. The new capacity at Mahape will help L&T's C&A business unit reach the revenue target as envisaged in our strategic growth plan," Naik said.
The C&A business will focus on providing electrical and automation solutions for the burgeoning oil and gas, water supply and infrastructure segments in the Gulf countries.
According to R N Mukhija, "Our automation business has shown robust growth in recent years, with over 40 per cent CAGR. This performance and the growing market requirements have generated confidence that this business will continue to grow in the next four or five years. We need additional capacity to meet the growing market demands."
The new state-of-the-art facility will house fully equipped system integration and FAT (factory acceptance test) to cater to the needs of both international and domestic customers, the release said.
