Mumbai: WeP Peripherals (formerly known as Wipro Peripherals), the leading IT peripherals solutions and services enterprise has achieved yet another milestone by crossing the 1-million printer mark.
WeP, which commenced operations in 1986 as a peripherals division of Wipro Infotech, produced the first Wipro Dot Matrix Printers RX-80 & FX 105 in 1987. Today, the company enjoys a market share of more than 35 per cent in the segment.
WePs 1-million-printer milestone also stands testimonial to the success of Indian hardware design and manufacturing. Speaking on the occasion, co-hosted by MAIT, the apex body representing IT hardware, MAIT president S Devarajan said: WeP Peripherals is a fine example of Indian manufacturing coming to the fore. They have been successful in catering to the Indian needs by coming out with unique low-cost innovative Indian solutions.
Further commenting on MAITs perspective of Indian manufacturing, he said: Today our need is to develop cost-effective IT products and solutions for the Indian masses. We need to focus on innovation and R&D. MAIT as a body is making efforts in facilitating the same and reaching IT to the common man by developing such indigenous solutions.
Elaborating on reaching the 1-million target, WeP Peripherals managing director and CEO Ram Agarwal says: We began manufacturing in 1987 and within six years we clocked 1 lakh printers. It is remarkable to note that the remaining 10,00,000 printers was achieved in just about a decade. Our focus will be to continue achieving leadership in the digital printing area. We will also be looking at increasing exports to constitute 20 per cent of our business and launching Indias first business printing outsourcing service.
