Suzuki and Maruti inaugurate two-wheeler and fourth car plant in Manesar

Manesar: Japan's Suzuki Motor Corporation and Maruti Udyog Limited today inaugurated their fourth car assembly plant, diesel engine and transmission plant and a plant to manufacture Suzuki's two-wheelers at Manesar.
Both plants are located within the same 600-acre complex in Manesar.
The car plant will have an initial capacity of one lakh per annum and will be scaled up to three lakh cars. The total investment required for this plant will be Rs2,500 crore by 2010, which will manufacture a new export model due for launch in 2008-09, apart from the Swift
The two companies also inaugurated the diesel engine and transmission plant the 70:30 JV Suzuki Powertrain India Limited (SPIL), in which the Japanese company holds the majority stake.
The plant has an initial capacity to manufacture one lakh diesel engines a year and is being scaled up to three lakh engines per year by 2010, which also would have an investment of Rs2,500 crore.
Overall SMC and MUL have announced an investment plan of Rs9,000 crore in India up to 2010 including the fourth car assembly, diesel and transmission plant, launch of new models and upgrade of MUL's existing facilities in Gurgaon.
