Qatar Petroleum awards $800-million turnkey contract to Punj Lloyd

Qatar Petroleum has awarded a $800-million turnkey gas pipeline project to Punj Lloyd, making it the Indian engineering company's fourth order in the Emirate. The project includes laying of 211km of pipeline with associated stations and infrastructure. The pipeline will transport 2000 MMSCFD of sweet lean gas from Ras Laffan to different consumers via 36-inch diameter pipelines, within 32 months.
"The project will facilitate in meeting the power and water production growth of Qatar,'' said Atul Punj, chairman, Punj Lloyd Group.
''Owing to the rapid infrastructure and oil and gas development in the region, we will continue to secure large ticket orders for our portfolio,'' Punj asserted.
Punj Lloyd has established a major presence in Qatar and is executing key EPC projects including the Doha Urban Pipeline Relocation and the multi-product pipeline from Qatar Petroleum Refinery to Doha Depot for Qatar Petroleum, and fuel systems for the New Doha International Airport.
The company said that including the backlog till 30 June, this project takes its order book position to Rs24,063 crore.
Qatar Petroleum focuses on four main areas, namely the liquefied natural gas (LNG), gas-to-liquids (GTL), gas pipeline exports, and gas feedstock for local industries and power plants. In addition, great expansion continues in the fields of petrochemicals and heavy industries.
