Mumbai:
China has revoked or suspended export licences of over 700 toy factories in the
southern provinces after inspections triggered by the spate of product recalls
overseas, state media said. Newspaper
reports citing local officials said hundreds of factories in Guangdong province,
the nation''s biggest toy exporting base, have also been ordered to renovate their
facilities or improve product quality. Inspectors
have found fault with 1,454 of Guangdong''s total 1,726 factories inspected - almost
85 per cent - according to the province''s quality supervision administration. The
administration reportedly sent 200,000 officials on a province wide inspection
of all products made for domestic and overseas markets, including medicines and
foods, as well as toys. "More
than 99 per cent of export products from Guangdong are qualified," the administration''s
director Lai Tiansheng was quoted as saying.
