Two Indians, Gururaj Deshpande and Mukesh Chatter have been named
in the top 10 list of entrepreneurs, by the Red Herring magazine. The magazine is a part
of a San Francisco based company Red Herring Communications. This company also runs a
website and TV show besides the magazine.
Mr Deshpande is the co-founder of Sycamore networks based
in Massachusetts. His earlier ventures include Coral Networks which was acquired by
Nortel. Another venture, Cascade communications was sold to Ascend communications for $3.7
billion, which was then taken over by Lucent Technologies.
Sycamore networks is into software based optical
networking products which are critical in high speed data services for providing cost
effective bandwidth.
Mr Chatter is the co-founder of Nexabit networks, also
based in Massachusetts. He had founded neoRAM which was acquired by Lucent technologies
for about $900 million. Nexabit is into developing Internet protocol based WAN (Wide area
network) switching and routing equipment.
Mr Chatter has over 15 years experience in designing and
developing networking and telecom equipment besides supercomputers and algorithms where he
has applied for several patents. One of his major inventions is the scaleable switching
architecture that goes into the switch and router technologies.
