Sensex slips 114 points in afternoon sell-off

Frontline Indian indexes attempted a recovery in early trading today, but came under pressure later in the day. Weakness in other regional markets affected the sentiment. Oil & gas stocks declined today while technology stocks remained under pressure. Select banking stocks like SBI also lost ground.

Sensex closed with losses of 114 points at 13765 and the Nifty lost 34 points to end at 4077. Nifty May futures closed at a discount of 11 points to the spot index.

Select oil & gas stocks came under heavy pressure today. Gail India was the worst performer among Nifty stocks and closed 4.33 per cent lower. HPCL ended 2.37 per cent lower and BPCL lost 1.92 per cent

SBI saw a sharp fall in the afternoon and ended 3.39 per cent lower
